On Saturday, March 24, the Little Sisters, Big Sisters, facilitators, and administrators gathered for YWLP’s annual UVa Day. Armed with raincoats and smiles, the women were able to enjoy a day of bonding and learning about UVa’s campus community despite the rain.
The afternoon began with delicious pizza on the Rotunda, followed by a fun session of YWLP picture-taking on the Rotunda steps. Afterward, each sister group headed to the Curry School of Education, where they listened to and participated in presentations from various campus groups including Alpha Omega Epsilon Engineering Sorority, the American Red Cross, Zumba with Cindy Parnell, Self Defense with Lisa Speidel, Fashion for a Cause, Daniel Hale Williams Premedical Honor Society, the Photography Club, the Pre-Veterinary Society, and Women of Law. Everyone enjoyed an afternoon of learning new skills and information about UVa!
The afternoon concluded with a YWLP-wide celebration, which was kicked off with a beautiful performance by UVa’s Black Voices. UVa athlete Morgan Stith, the guest speaker of the day, noted the importance of being a strong female leader. The program ended with cupcakes, songs and presentations from Sister Groups, and pictures from the year. What a wonderful way to celebrate another successful year of young women leaders in the Charlottesville community!
