Intern Spotlight: Catherine Toro

September 9, 2016

img_1472My name is Catherine Toro and I am a third year, from Baltimore, Maryland, studying Psychology and African American Studies. On grounds, I am involved in the Latino Student Alliance, DREAMers on Grounds, and the Hispanic/Latino Peer Mentoring Program.

Unlike my fellow interns, this is my first year of involvement with the Young women’s Leadership Program. I wanted to join the YWLP because I have been both a mentor and a mentee, and in my experience, I have been able to see how empowering it can be to have a role model and mentor. In addition, through my work with LSA Advocacy, fighting for more diversity in faculty, I am excited about also recruiting a more diverse group of Big Sisters to compliment the great diversity here in Charlottesville. I am excited to start working with my fellow interns to make this program the best that it can be!
