Sister Sites
YWLP’s success at the University of Virginia has attracted interest from universities, schools, and communities across the nation. In 2004-2005, we began a national outreach initiative in order to develop YWLP Sister Sites in other communities. Our efforts have been very successful. We have established YWLP Sister Sites in Virginia, throughout the United States, and even in Africa. We are providing each of these Sites with program materials, grant and research support, and program consultation as needed.
In 2006, we hired an Outreach Coordinator to continue to establish and work with new Sister Sites. The Coordinator helps Sites adapt the YWLP structure and curriculum to address the needs of the community and adolescent female population they serve. Given current interest in service-learning models, civic and global responsibility, and tolerance education for today’s youth, we see great potential for the national expansion of YWLP.
